Instrument Adjusting
The term
adjusting when applied to spinecare is often used to refer to spine segment
mobilization or manipulation. Chiropractic adjusting, as a form of spinal
manipulation, is the most commonly performed treatment approach used by chiropractors.
Over the past three decades, adjusting instruments have been developed to
assist chiropractors in delivering therapeutic forces to the spine. The use of
an adjusting instrument provides a variety of potential benefits, which include
application of a more specific and targeted force and the ability to use a controlled
preset therapeutic thrust. It is not uncommon for a chiropractic physican to
use a hands on approach as well as instrumentation to treat the neck and
back. Many of the devices available
are capable of providing a very controlled and gentle impulse to the spine.
Computerized instrument adjusting devices are capable of determining immediate
tissues responses to therapy and record serial treatments. This computerized
interface allows the doctor to track progress and reproduce identical treatment
protocols on each session.
